We are looking for a hard-working, energetic Prep Cook to be responsible for setting up workstations in the kitchen and preparing ingredients for the cooking process to assist our kitchen kitchen workers. The Food Preparation Worker will wash, peel, slice, trim, chop, and grate fruit and vegetables, and measure, weigh, and mix a wide variety of ingredients. The Food Preparation Worker will cut, slice and grind a variety of meats. You will ensure ingredients are stored and rotated effectively to optimize freshness, and ensure desired stock levels at all times. You will collaborate with kitchen team to ensure customer satisfaction and retention.


To be a successful Prep Cook, you should understand and be willing to comply with food and sanitation guidelines and regulations, be quick and diligent, and willing to improve on the job. You will ensure quality and stability of products by complying with production guidelines, by following standardized recipes, and by overseeing product quality through adequate storage and product rotation. You should be able to follow instructions and work in a fast-paced environment.


Prep Cook Job Responsibilities:

  • Preparing workstation with required ingredients and equipment, and keeping station sanitary and organized throughout shift.

  • Cleaning and disinfecting all food preparation tools, instruments, and equipment before and after each use.

  • Following prep lists created by chefs.

  • Working effectively with kitchen team, and complying with company procedures and food safety policies.

  • Preparing simple dishes, such as entrees or salads.

  • Ensuring all food items are properly stored and easily accessible.

  • Ensuring ingredients are tagged, date-labeled, covered, stored and rotated effectively.

  • Following proper food storage procedures to prevent spoilage.

  • Monitoring food supplies and informing the supervisor of low stock to ensure that the food preparation process isn’t disrupted or delayed due to insufficient ingredients.

  • Assisting chefs in preparing food and attending to any culinary tasks that arise.

  • Supervising food and cooling room temperatures.

  • Promptly notifying the supervisor of any incidents or suspicions of food contamination.

  • Maintaining a clean, orderly, and sanitized kitchen.

  • Ensuring that all food surfaces, as well as refrigerators, ovens, freezers, and microwaves, are clean.

Prep Cook Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Culinary school training would be advantageous.

  • Experience as a prep cook may be advantageous.

  • A Food Handler's license.

  • Proficient knife-handling skills.

  • Sound knowledge of food health and safety regulations, as well as a sound understanding of food allergies and foodborne illnesses

  • Strong team working and communication skills.

  • Basic mathematical skills.

  • Ability to follow recipes.

  • Physical endurance to work long shifts in a busy environment, especially the ability to stand for extended periods.

  • Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, nights, and holidays.

  • Ability to work in stressful, fast-paced environment.

  • The ability to work as part of a team.

  • Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.

  • Effective communication skills.

  • Excellent understanding of food preparation fundamentals.
